The websites of the Mirror and the Sunday Mirror will host a news video player and place video at the core of the site after signing a partnership with online video specialist Roo.

From next month, the mirror.co.uk homepage will host three embedded video players featuring news, sport and showbiz.

The individual sites will also produce their own unique video content, which will be delivered through the Roo content management system.

Earlier this week, News Corporation took an up to 10 per cent share of Roo, which already powers the video services of NewsCorp's UK publications the Sun and the Times.

The deal is part of Mirror Group Newspapers' (MGN's) strategy to place video at the heart of its websites with advertisers able to purchase pre-roll video along with banner advertising formats for synchronised campaigns.

Julia Smith, head of digital at MGN, said: "Through our partnership with Roo we have received access to the most sophisticated video streaming technology on the market.

“Roo is the perfect choice for online publishing, as its depth of content reflects exactly what our readership desires."
