Emap is to invest only 11 million pounds in its digital business arm this year, compared with 50 million two years ago.

The announcement came after the release of its first-half financial results, which showed it managed to break even. During the same period last year it lost 11 million, but still invested 16 million.

In August the company set up a new digital division, Emap Performance Interactive, to exploit opportunities in its music businesses. It has since won content deals with telecoms companies Vodafone and Hutchison 3G.

Its music title, Kerrang!, is to launch a digital radio service on the Freeview digital TV platform early next year.

The Emap group made a pre-tax profit of £61m in the half-year, after making a loss of £100m in the same period last year.
