US media resource web site The Journalists Toolbox (www.journaliststoolbox.com) has been purchased by the American Press Institute (API).

Founded in 1996 by former Los Angeles Times reporter Mike Reilley, the Toolbox lists more than 18,000 useful web sites for journalists. It will be incorporated with other online information and training services produced by the Institute's media centre division, which focuses on digital, online and new media.

"The Journalist's Toolbox is a great resource for journalists and journalism educators concerned with producing well-researched content," said William L. Winter, Ph.D., president and executive director of API.

"Through our publishing, training and programs from The Media Center we want to help journalists better understand how they can use the Web as a research tool. The Journalist's Toolbox is a perfect complement to our other activities."

Founded in 1946, the American Press Institute is an independent, not-for-proift educational centre based in Virginia in the US. It hosts conferences and seminars across the states.
