Times Online, the web site of UK national newspaper The Times, has launched a new entertainment web site.

The site will feature events listings and breaking news on TV, film, music and the arts. Users will also be able to book tickets through the site and explore an entertainment shop, created in partnership with retail chain MVC.

The new web site will be funded by part of the company's £10 million investment in The Month, a new interactive CD Rom entertainment supplement. The first edition of the CD was released with The Sunday Times on 31 August and boosted sales of the newspaper by around 12 per cent.

Future editions of the free CD will be released on the last Sunday of every month and will continue to feature unique interactive film and audio content.

The new entertainment site will be edited by Hector Arthur, features editor of Times Online. Mr Arthur explained that the entertainment section is an important area of Times Online's content.

"With the launch of The Month and the extended offering from The Times on Saturday, it made sense to draw on our strengths in this area to create a unique online offering that helps our readers make the most of their time," he said.

"In doing so we have created a compelling environment that caters for the needs of our discerning, net-savvy audience."

Both the CD supplement and new entertainment site are designed to attract younger readers to the site. The Times claims to have more young, professional readers than any other broadsheet newspaper.
