Video of attack on Syrian Kurds is smuggled out online

Video footage of an alleged attack by the Syrian authorities on a crowd of Syrian Kurds attending a funeral was broadcast on UK TV tonight after being first published online.

The footage shows several hundred mourners coming under intense gunfire at the ceremony.

Kurdish activists were unable to send the tapes out of the country, and so uploaded three minutes of footage to the internet. A Channel 4 news team downloaded 33 separate files from the web to make up the three minute video.

There have been several clashes between Arabs and the country's minority Kurdish community in the past few days. At least nine Kurds have been killed and more than 300 are reported to have been arrested.

According to the BBC, Syrian authorities have denied there is any unrest, saying that there have been only 'tribal clashes'.
