US news channel Fox News has been criticised by UK media watchdog Ofcom for comments made about the BBC by presenter John Gibson.

During Mr Gibson's hour-long 'My Word' news programme on 29 January, he commented on the Hutton report and referred to the BBC's "obsessive, irrational and dishonest" anti-Americanism.

"Even taking into account that this was a 'personal view' item, the strength and number of allegations that John Gibson made against the BBC meant that Fox News should have offered the BBC an opportunity to respond," said Ofcom.

• Fox News has recently relaunched its website with the aim of increasing advertising sales and boosting audience numbers.
