Journalists will be able to use a dedicated Wi-fi service during the Conservative Party conference this autumn, thanks to a deal arranged by specialist provider Square Seven.

Until now, the only internet connection on site at the Bournemouth International Centre was a fixed line web connection which costs £365 for five days' use. Square Seven has negotiated a deal in partnership with a major telecoms group and technology firm and will announce pricing options shortly.

Wireless - or 'Wi-fi' - internet connections allow reporters and photographers to work from anywhere in the conference venue and post reports and images more quickly. Wi-fi networks are usually cheaper than fixed line internet connections, which need to be cabled into the venues.

There is still no on-site Wi-fi network to cover the Liberal Democrats' autumn conference, which is also being held at the Bournemouth International Conference centre.

Wi-fi access will be available for the Labour Party conference in Brighton through the venue's permanent wireless network.

The Conservative Party conference takes place between 4 and 8 October.
