Trinity Mirror will introduce new interactive tools to its newspaper websites as part of a deal with social media firm Pluck.

The publisher will implement Pluck's SiteLife range of features on its national sites, Mirror.co.uk, Sunday Mail and Daily Record, and key regional sites, including the Liverpool Echo, Coventry Telegraph and Gazette Live.

The same system is already used by Sky News and was implemented as part of the Guardian website's relaunch last year.

The new tools, which will be put into action later this year, will give users the ability to comment on all suitable articles, build site profiles and make recommendations, David Black, Trinity Mirror's group director of digital publishing, told Journalism.co.uk.

The features will be incorporated in the Trinity sites using widgets and APIs, which allow the tools to be adapted for the publisher's websites.

The changes will allow users to connect with others within a site and help advertisers build a better picture of user engagement, Black added.

"Our strategy is all about building a really engaged online audience. We see interactivity as absolutely critical to improving the experience we offer to our users," said Black.

"By adding social tools it makes sure we are providing great content and giving our users the chance to interact with that content."
