UK online video magazine the View has made it through to the final five for the 2005 Batten Awards which celebrate innovation in interactive storytelling.

The View features video reports and interviews produced by experienced 'backpack' journalists reporting from the UK, US and South Africa and is the only British site among four other US-based contenders.

Other finalists include the Greensboro Record's 'Town Square' initiative, which aims to create a space for readers' discussion and contribution about the community.

A panel of judges have chosen a $10,000 winner, a $2,000 second place and three $1,000 Awards of Distinction. Winners will be announced at the Batten Symposium in Washington DC on 12 September.

The symposium will feature a keynote discussion with Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and Michael Kinsey, editorial and opinion editor at the LA Times, which recently ran an experiment with a publicly editable editorial item.
