BBC News has launched its first video podcast service.

As part of a 12-month trial the BBC is making available podcasts from its flagship programmes the Ten O'Clock News and Newsnight.

Viewers will be able to download ten 'best of the week' packages from Ten O'Clock News - called Ten Weekly - as well as subscribe to Newsnight reports and investigations from the previous seven days.

Also available in the first phase of the trial is a tongue-in-cheek look at the last week's news download called STORYFix.

Ten Weekly will be available every Wednesday, STORYFix and Newsnight will be published on a Friday evening.

Adrian Van Klaveren, deputy director of BBC News, said: "This trial aims to give people a range of great BBC News content that they can enjoy watching in a completely different way on new portable devices."

Later in the year the second phase of the download trial will offer an edited version of Question Time and a morning news briefing, which will be available daily.

A range of non-news programmes will also become available as the download trial progresses.
