Yahoo! will today begin publishing original finance columns as part of an effort to add more original news content to its web site.

The move comes less than a month after Yahoo!'s decision to include sports commentary and original reports on global conflicts.

The company has signed nine columnists to write about personal finance and investment, with a view to attracting more visitors and increasing its advertising revenue.

Scott Moore, vice president of content operations for the Yahoo! Media Group, told the Wall Street Journal that the changes are for a "deeper engagement" with existing Yahoo! users whilst attempting to broaden its audience.

The new content is designed to appeal to women in their 30s and 40s who are interested in finance issues.

Writers include several veterans of the business press as well as business authors including Robert Kiyosaki and Daniel Pink. They will write one or two articles a month on a freelance basis.
