Participate Media, publisher of BuzzTracker.com, confirmed the purchase of the beta service, which allows users to track the coverage of specific news and subjects across the web.
The site's technology crawls 110,000 content sources and claims to deliver more than 1,700 topic feeds a day.
Andy Warms, CEO of Participate Media, also revealed he would be joining Yahoo! News as vice president and general manager.
No price for the deal has been disclosed, but a report on the Wall Street Journal's technology and internet site, claims the acquisition was made for close to $5 million.
"I am extremely excited to come aboard as general manager and have the opportunity to drive value from news, extend Yahoo!'s leadership position and contribute to their commitment to being more open by bringing the best content from across the web," said Warms.
He added that Participate Media staff involved with BuzzTracker would join him in the move.
