The changes required to ESET’s product range were minor and concerned mainly those features that are closely linked with the core of the OS, including ESET’s Self-defence function, which prevents computer infiltrations from deactivating or negatively affecting the computer’s security status. In addition, ESET expanded the rules within its Personal Firewall to accommodate the new network services within Windows 7.
“Windows Vista introduced several changes with an aim to improve the overall security of the OS. However, it had the opposite effect because users simply deactivated some important defence mechanisms,” says Paul Brook, Managing Director of ESET UK. “Windows 7 should rectify this to some degree, but there can be no substitute for comprehensive malware protection and for users to exercise caution when surfing the web and opening up files.”
In order to ensure full compatibility with Windows 7 OS, ESET recommends that users download the newest installation package for ESET Smart Security 4 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus, as well as the Business Edition versions running ESET Remote Administrator 3 and re-install the product.
