P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd, of North Nibley, saw off competition from across the UK to take the Small Contracts category at the Premier Trophy Awards, organised by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA).
The award was presented for the quality of their work at St Peter’s Catholic Church, in Gloucester.
P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd also scooped the PDA’s Environmental Excellence Award for their work at the church, located on London Road.
A new award from the PDA, this was the first year the ‘green’ accolade was given. Judged by the Association, it was presented to P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd for their use of sustainable products and materials.
Father and son team Peter and Stephen Timbrell, both directors of the company, together with their wives Margaret and Carolyn, travelled to London for the prestigious ceremony, held at the magnificent Painters’ Hall. Canon Bernard Massey, of St Peter’s Catholic Church, also attended the event.
Carolyn Timbrell, who is also a director of P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd, said: “We were delighted to achieve both awards. The paint industry is changing with the development of more environmentally friendly products.
“Much of the work we do centres on traditional materials and techniques, however we also try our best to keep up to date with new technology. We are always looking for environmentally-friendly alternatives and are delighted our work has been recognised by the PDA with their first-ever environmental accolade.”
Paul Marsden, chief executive of the PDA, said: “P & S Timbrell Decorators Ltd demonstrated great craftsmanship, skill and expertise with the project at St Peter’s Catholic Church, combined with a commitment to the environment.
“To achieve both awards, which recognise and reward the highest standards in the industry, is an incredible achievement.”

The PDA is Britain's largest trade body, dedicated to the painting and decorating trade. Members include sole traders through to large-scale national contractors employing hundreds of operatives.
