Since its launch in August 2009, the Good Surgeon Guide has gone from strength to strength helping consumers in their decision about where to go and who to turn to for their cosmetic surgery procedure or aesthetic treatment. The site has already been featured in The Sun and Daily Express and is proving a big hit with consumers. The Epsom-based founders of the site have spoke about their reasons behind the concept and their exciting plans for the future.
www.thegoodsurgeonguide.co.uk launched in August 2009 as a review and recommendation website for cosmetic surgery, dentistry and aesthetic treatments. The main aim of the website is to help people who are considering cosmetic surgery, or any other type of aesthetic treatment, to make a better and more informed decision about who to trust with their procedure.
Users of the site can read reviews and see ratings left by past patients of surgeons, dentists or nurses, meaning there is greater transparency between the practitioner and the patient and a lower risk of unexpected problems. The founders of the Good Surgeon Guide have revealed the motivations for setting up the website.
Christiana Clogg and Jennie Bassett saw that there was a gap in the market for a review website that focused on cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments, a concept that was already available in many other industries from travel to technology but not for beauty treatments. Both had considered cosmetic surgery, but were overwhelmed by the amount of choice and the lack of guidance, which prompted them to create the Good Surgeon Guide.
Christiana Clogg is originally from Manchester and has been in the 'review' sector for several years, having worked on well-known publications. She gave her reasons for her passion for thegoodsurgeonguide.co.uk:
“I genuinely believe that there is a gap in the market for a website like this and I am passionate about giving people the advice and guidance that they need before signing themselves up to any kind of surgery or aesthetic treatment. Changing your appearance in any way is a life changing choice and it's a decision that's not to be made lightly or without doing the relevant research first.”
Surrey based Jennie Bassett said the following:
“When I initially started researching the cosmetic treatment industry, I was horrified to find that there are no independent sites on the web to guide people considering treatment. I was shocked by the amount of confusing and conflicting advice available to the end user. As the Good Surgeon Guide is not linked with any surgery or practitioner and isn't trying to sell a service, consumers can find out exactly what they need to know without being blinded by persuasive sales jargon."
