An easy way to save up to 50 per cent off your summer hire car is to simply reserve it now. Leading UK car hire rate comparison website, Carrentals.co.uk, shows that travellers who book their August rental car now will pay half what they will if they wait until July or August to complete the booking.

One good example can be seen with the current car rental prices in Alicante. Customers who booked their hire car last minute in August 2010 paid an average of £31 per day. Today, the daily rate for an Alicante rental in August 2011 in just £16*.

Right now, the rates for a weekly car rental in August 2011 start at £13* per day at Barcelona Airport, £17* at Malaga Airport, £16* at Lisbon's Airport and from £18* per day at Larnaca Airport.
