British Public Radio

Roberts Radio, the UK brand leader in the portable radio market, has lent its support to the inaugural British Public Radio Awards, launched this month by the team planning to open Britain’s first national commercial general interest speech station.

Staged in association with Audioboo, the British Public Radio Awards are designed to encourage and reward the production of great speech-based audio from both established producers and those who are yet to break into the mainstream.

"The Awards are all about celebrating quality speech radio" says British Public Radio’s MD Tim Nice, "it’s fantastic to have the support of an iconic British radio manufacturer so renowned for the quality of its products."

Each winner of the ten awards offered across five categories will receive a Roberts Union Jack Sports DAB 2 personal radio. The winner of the Gold Award for the most outstanding entry overall will also receive the Roberts Union Jack Revival RD60 DAB Digital Radio.

All qualifying entries will be showcased on the BPR Awards Audioboo channel, with shortlisted entries broadcast in full on the British Public Radio programme stream, running now at http://britishpublicradio.com

The award categories are Documentary, Entertainment, Factual/News, Drama and Experimental, within which entrants may submit either a Long Form piece (between 15 minutes and one hour in duration) or a Short Form feature (under 15 minutes).

Entries may be made online at http://britishpublicradio.com/awards and are open until July 15th 2013.  Entry is free and is open to all. The only exclusions are items previously aired on BBC or commercial stations.

Winners will be announced on Thursday 5th September 2013.

Judges include 'Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy' writer/director Dirk Maggs, Radioplayer MD Michael Hill, radio futurologist James Cridland, former Deputy Controller BBC 5 Live Steve Kyte, MD of Pixiu Alex Feldman and Audioboo’s Head of Content Amanda Brown, as well as British Public Radio founders Tim Nice, Matt Hopper and Ken Rayner.
