When the news broke, UK bookmakers were quick to price up odds on all of the leading suspects for killing Rovers Return barmaid Tina. The early favourite is her boyfriend Peter Barlow, who is odds-on with both William Hill and Ladbrokes. Other prime suspects are Carla Barlow, Tracy Barlow and Rob Donovan.
This latest twist in the Coronation street storyline means an end to prime time TV for actress Keegan, who has become a favourite of both male and female viewers since arriving at the Rovers Return in 2008. The 26-year-old made the decision to leave the show but she admitted that she was surprised to find out about Tina’s grizzly end.
"When Stuart (Stuart Blackburn, the show’s producer) told me that Tina was going to be killed off I was surprised, not disappointed. Making my decision to leave was hard but in the back of my head I thought I might get the reassurance that one day I might be able to go back so it's made it all final for me."
Those looking for tips from Michelle on who kills Tina are, however, kept guessing as she claims to have no idea as to the identity of the murderer:
"I have an idea who’s going to kill her but haven’t been told the full details yet. There are a few rumours flying around but I’ve got a meeting with Stuart coming up so I’m sure I’ll find out then."
The Coronation Street crew are so determined to keep the identity of the killer under wraps that they will film four different endings. This will ensure that there are no plot leaks.
The bookmakers are no wiser than the general public and the odds currently being quoted are simply based on the ideas of the traders, with prices almost guaranteed to change in the coming months.
Bettingpro.com editor Neil Roarty said: “The Who Killed Tina McIntyre betting market is set to be a huge one. The fact that no-one knows the identity of the killer means that we’re guaranteed to see some swings in the odds as the prices change to reflect the latest clues released to the public.
“The Who Shot Phil Mitchell? Storyline in Eastenders was not only voted the ‘Most Dramatic of 2001’ but it also broke betting records, which were then passed by the ‘Who Killed Archie Mitchell’ storyline in 2010. This latest whodunnit looks set to be the biggest one ever and it’s no surprise that the bookies are offering odds already.”
William Hill are currently offering the following odds on "Who Killed Tina McIntyre":
Pete Barlow 4/6
Carla Barlow 5/2
Tracy Barlow 6/1
Rob Donovan 8/1
