Arsenal’s hunger for points is great, as the battle for the third and fourth places looks set to go to the wire. The Gunners currently have a game in hand over Spurs in fourth, whilst they are five points behind Chelsea.
The bookmakers make them huge favourites to beat Wigan, with Bet365 offering just 1/3 for the home win. That compares to a massive price of 8/1 for the visitors and a chunky 4/1 for the draw, both also with Bet365.
Meanwhile, Chelsea can become the first club in history to hold both the Champions League and Europa League trophies at the same time (albeit for just 10 days) if they triumph in Amsterdam. And while Chelsea will go into the Europa Final match as favourites, it should be remembered that this will be Benfica’s ninth major European final. The Portuguese side have lost the last six of them, but their last victory in a European final – their 5-3 win over Real Madrid – took place in Amsterdam, which could be a good omen for Jorge Jesus and his side. On that occasion, in 1962, the Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás scored a hat-trick for Real, but two goals from the equally legendary Eusébio swung the match the way of Benfica.
Many pundits fancy the Blues to edge this by the odd goal and think backing them to do so at odds of 3/1 with Paddy Power looks like great value. In the correct score market, given Chelsea lack the solidity they possessed last season when defending their way to the Champions League.
