Over on this Social Media Graphics blog there is a nice graphic suggesting the best time to post from Twitter and Facebook.

The key is that the optimum time to tweet to encourage retweets is 5pm, with a frequency of between one and four tweets an hour.

The best times to post to Facebook are Saturdays or at noon on weekdays and to share an average of 0.5 posts per day.
