Al Jazeera English has launched a new blogging network featuring its correspondents from around the world.
"The Al Jazeera Blogs are written by our extensive network of correspondents who will take you behind the news and across the world," AJE head of online media, Mohamed Nanabhay , told Journalism.co.uk.
"This project is part of our continuing commitment to field journalism, while allowing our correspondents to be part of the ongoing conversation in the blogosphere."
It is the first new product launched since Nanabhay took over the Al Jazeera English website and he is 'reasonably excited about it', he said on his blog today .
"Just browsing through our correspondent blogs will give you a real sense of the breadth of our coverage, while diving into the posts provides real depth and insight into our world," he said.
In keeping with Al Jazeera's support of Creative Commons , work on the network is licensed under one of Creative Commons' licenses.
"Of course, while the posts are fantastic we've also deployed a lot of social web goodness," Nanabhay said, citing that all posts are semantically tagged using the Thomson Reuters' OpenCalais system and users can leave comments using Facebook, Twitter or OpenID.
