For the third time running, Mail Online recorded the highest number of monthly unique users last month, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCe).

Although down month-on-month, it managed to keep the top slot by a clear margin, recording 28,683,926 unique users, a 64.21 per cent year-on-year rise.

Guardian.co.uk was, again, the second most popular site audited in terms of unique users with 26,656,444 for the month, followed by the Telegraph.co.uk, which posted 24,847,184 unique users for the same period.

The Sun was down -5.14 this month to 23,803,426. The Independent was down slightly, 4.04 per cent to 8,049,316. No newspaper site saw an increase, with the biggest drop-off for Mirror group, which saw a decrease of -13.11 per cent.

Every title saw an increase year-on-year except for the Times, which dropped off -4.84 per cent to 18,738,550.

As previously reported in July, the bureau's report now includes figures on average daily unique user figures for the sites, as shown below.

Mail Online

Unique users: 28,683,926 (-3.98 per cent); + 64.21  per cent year-on-year

Average daily unique users:1,686,684 (- 2.66 per cent)

Times Online

Unique users: 18,738,550 (-0.72 per cent); -4.84 per cent year-on-year

Average daily unique users: 1,000,776 ( -1.97  per cent)

TheSun.co.uk

Unique users: 23,803,426 (-5.14 per cent); + 48.91  per cent year-on-year

Average daily unique users: 1,411,227 (-2.98  per cent)

Independent.co.uk

Unique users: 8,049,316 (-4.04 per cent); + 21.42  per cent year-on-year

Average daily unique users: 366,892 (- 4.99 per cent)

Mirror Group

Unique users: 9,041,366 (-13.11 per cent); +62.18 per cent year-on-year

Average daily unique users: 441,684 (-10.91 per cent)
