The BBC and Birmingham City University have agreed a landmark 10-year partnership to establish a specialist centre for media skills and learning at the Tea Factory, the BBC’s new Midlands HQ in Digbeth.
The centre will offer BCU students hands-on training using BBC-spec technology and industry-standard facilities, including hi-tech studios, workshops and teaching rooms.
Courses will span media, journalism, content creation and production, with practical experience delivered through workshops, shadowing, masterclasses and live industry briefs involving BBC staff.
The partnership aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, offering direct access to industry expertise and preparing graduates for immediate entry into creative careers.
By strengthening Birmingham’s role as a leading creative hub, the move will support the BBC's 'Across the UK' strategy to expand creative industries beyond London and promote diversity in the sector.
This collaboration is designed to ensure the West Midlands remains a priority region for investment, creative growth and new opportunities in broadcasting and digital content.
