The BBC board has confirmed that director-general Tim Davie will step down on 2 April 2026. Rhodri Talfan Davies, currently BBC director of nations, will serve as interim director-general until a permanent successor is appointed.
To ensure a smooth transition, Rhodri will join the BBC Board as an executive director from 1 February and will continue in this role when he becomes interim director-general on 3 April. Rhuanedd Richards will remain as interim nations director during this period.
BBC chair Samir Shah praised Rhodri as “an outstanding leader who brings deep editorial experience and a passionate commitment to public service broadcasting.” The process to appoint a new director-general is ongoing, following Tim Davie’s resignation announced on 9 November 2025.
