The Big Issue is to digitise its print archive as part of wider online plans for the title.
The magazine is also exploring the possibility of developing a new title, exclusively available in a digital format, Lara McCullagh, business development and communications manager for the Big Issue, told Journalism.co.uk.
The title will initially make e-editions of individual back issues via the Yudu Store, which will go live next Tuesday .
Customers will have the opportunity to subscribe to the Big Issue on the site and a system whereby homeless people benefit from each transaction is being developed, said McCullagh.
The exact details of this system have not yet been finalised, she added.
"The Big Issue's 18th birthday presents an ideal opportunity to assess our achievements to date, with a view to developing the business and extending our offering to homeless people," said McCullagh.
"We hope to create a series of initiatives which will intensify our engagement with our audience, generate new revenues and - more importantly - allow us to offer vulnerable people the opportunity to escape the trap of homelessness."
Speaking to Journalism.co.uk about the launch of the Yudu Store, online subscriptions manager Chris Sheard said he hoped the service would see more niche publications coming online.
The site will also offer users a more interactive reading experience with the opportunity to participate in forums and polls relating to the available titles, Sheard added.
