The Bivings Report has selected the New York Times as the best example of a US newspaper website.

The Report has followed up its own research , which looked at use of the internet across the US newspaper trade, by drawing out of this what it considers the top ten examples of 'good' newspaper websites in the US. NYTimes.com just beat Washingtonpost.com to top spot because of its ease on the eye, intuitive navigation and removal of the pay wall that had previously prevented access to Times Select opinion section.

Bivings Report singled out second place Washingtonpost.com’s use of database applications as a key feature on the site and praised developers for creating one of the best examples of a newspaper with an 'online product significantly different from its print product'.

Third place USAtoday.com highlights, says the Report, include social networking, social networking and yet more social networking.
