The Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC) has announced a major restructure of its Student Journalism Awards, aiming to align with the industry’s shift towards digital and social platforms. The 2026 awards now include a Best Social Video category for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other short-form formats, and a new Best Live Report award to recognise real-time reporting skills valued across both traditional and social media.
Traditional TV, radio, and online newsday awards have been merged into a single Best Multiplatform Newsday category, reflecting how newsrooms now operate across platforms. The new Best Representation Award highlights journalism that gives a voice to underrepresented communities, while the Good News Award celebrates solutions-focused reporting.
BJTC chief executive Jon Godel said the changes make the awards "more inclusive, more contemporary, and more representative of the work students are producing."
The top prize, the Steve Harris Award for Excellence in Journalism, comes with a £500 cash award.
Entries are open to 2,000 students on BJTC-accredited courses until 7 October 2026. Hit the link below for more details.
