Prizes recognising news outlets which have engaged young people have opened for entries, featuring new categories such as engagement via mobile devices.
The World Young Reader Prizes, which are run by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers ( WAN-IFRA ), offer prizes in five core categories, including Editorial and Making the News. According to a release from WAN-IFRA , the prizes honour newspaper companies that "have devised the best projects and activities during the past two years to promote newspaper reading and usage, on all platforms, among those under 25".
There are four special categories for 2011 in total, which includes Connecting with Mobile, for a newspaper that has success in engaging the young via mobile telephone delivery, The Natasa Prize for Printing Plants, for a newspaper printing plant action that teaches young people about journalism and Enduring Excellence, to honour young reader programmes.
The fourth is a new Digital NIE Teacher award which has also been added to the line-up, to recognise an educator who has created "the best set of lesson plans that use the electronic version of the newspaper in class".
Each category offers a top prize of €1,000 and entries can be submitted until 30 June. More details on how to enter can be found here.
