The Financial Times appointed Patrick Foulis as a contributing editor. Foulis, known for his deep expertise in foreign affairs and business, will pen a monthly column exploring how global politics is reshaping markets and the economy.

Foulis brings a wealth of experience from his time at The Economist, where he served as foreign editor, business affairs editor, and Schumpeter columnist. He began his career in banking before moving into journalism, including a stint as deputy editor for the FT’s Lex column. He is also the author of an upcoming book on globalisation and a Visiting Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution.

FT editor Roula Khalaf praised Foulis as “a brilliant thinker and wonderful writer” with a rare understanding of the links between business, finance, and global politics. Foulis said he is excited to join the FT, describing the current era as “risky and full of opportunity” as the world moves beyond the globalisation of previous decades.
