Political bloggers Iain Dale and Guido Fawkes have been nominated alongside blogs from the Financial Times, Times and Spectator for the inaugural Comment Awards .

The 12 categories for the awards, which are organised by Editorial Intelligence and partners, have been divided between 'commentariat' and 'bloggertariat' with the FT's Alphaville , Times' Comment Central and the Spectator's Coffee House blogs all nominated for the online newspaper blog prize.

Dale and Fawkes have been shortlisted with Chris Dillow for the online commentator (independent blogger) accolade.

Categories include financial commentator, magazine commentator and best comment pages, for which the Financial Times, the Observer and the Times are nominated.

"The quality of the shortlists is extremely high, reflecting the importance which the UK media put on comment and opinion both in print and online," Sir Christopher Meyer, former head of the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) and chair of the awards' judging panel, said in a release.

The winners will be announced on October 13 with a special Chairman's Choice prize awarded on the night.
