Guardian Media Group (GMG) has appointed Brent Hoberman to the board as a non-executive director.
Mr Hoberman, 38, is the co-founder and former chief executive of lastminute.com , one of Europe's leading e-commerce companies.
After launching in 1998, lastminute.com went on to become one of the UK's most high-profile and successful websites.
The company floated in 2000 and was acquired by Travelocity Europe, a division of Sabre Holdings Corporation, for more than £577 million in 2005.
Mr Hoberman became part-time chairman and chief strategy officer in May 2006, before moving to a part-time consultancy role in January 2007.
Paul Myners, chairman of GMG, said: "Brent is widely acknowledged to be a true pioneer in online business.
"His experience and entrepreneurial flair will be of great benefit to GMG as we move into an exciting period of development for the Group."
