The Scott Trust Ltd, owner of Guardian Media Group (GMG), has launched its first bursary scheme for software development training .

The Trust is offering two bursaries to support postgraduate training, in particular for female students whose career has been affected by family or domestic commitments, an announcement on the group's website said. Support for students on print, broadcast and web journalism postgraduate courses are already offered by the Trust.

The new initiative recognises the increasing demand for high calibre technology specialists who can work with journalists and the media, a spokesman for GMG told Journalism.co.uk.

The scheme will cover tuition fees, a subsistence allowance of £5,000 and a work placement with GMG.

To qualify for the bursaries applicants must be a graduate with a 2:1 degree, a permanent UK resident and have been accepted on a BCS accredited postgraduate information technology one-year conversion course.

Candidates should also demonstrate an interest in software development for the web and media.

The deadline for applications, which can be made at this link , is March 16 2009.
