Guardianweekly.co.uk has relaunched as the Guardian Weekly Global Network blending first-person editorial and with social networking.

The site is split into two parts with the blue section featuring first-person or eyewitness reports commissioned from a range of sources - including Guardian and Observer foreign correspondents.

The content is structured around ten subject areas: politics, conflict, health, fragile planet, development, discovery, education, culture, human rights and 21st century life.

The orange section is the social networking area, allowing users to register profiles, submit their own articles, video and images, comment, rate and respond to other users’ comments and communicate with other users.

"Our strategy is ambitious but ultimately it could transform all online news websites. We are making the focus of our reporting about how individuals are affected by global events," said Mark King, editor of Guardianweekly.co.uk, in a press statement.

"We also want to connect our readers, giving them the opportunity to truly effect change and providing a platform for voices that are often overlooked.

"I hope the Guardian Weekly Global Network will become the must-read website for those interested in how global news and politics effects real people, from grain farmers in Africa to pro-Hilary voters in the US."
