Under the agreement visitors to Johnston Press sites from outside of the UK and Ireland will see advertising relevant to their location.

The international ads will feature across Johnston's 322 regional and local websites and Scotsman.com .

Digital advertising firm AdGent 007, which already represents the Telegraph's international advertising inventory, will handle the ads.

"As Scotland's most visited newspaper website, Scotsman.com has a strong element of international visits and this agreement will enable us to deliver more targeted advertising and further enhance revenues from this traffic,” said Henry Faure Walker, general manager of The Scotsman Publications Ltd, in a press release .

Last year the BBC began advertising to international visitors on its bbc.com website, placing ads on high-traffic pages.
