The Mail Online recorded the biggest increase in monthly traffic figures in July across all audited national newspaper sites, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation.

The ABC's multi-platform report released today shows that the Daily Mail's website saw the number of its monthly unique browsers rise back over the 70 million mark, reaching 72,964,048.

This represents an increase of 8.72 per cent on the previous month. In June the site failed to avoid a dip in traffic felt across all the audited titles, with a decrease of 13.13 per cent on its record-breaking figure of more than 77 million in May, down to just over 67 million.

Today's report shows month-on-month increases in monthly figures for all national newspaper sites audited by ABC, with the Independent the only site to record a decrease in daily average traffic, of just 0.55 per cent.

The Guardian recorded the biggest increase in daily unique browsers for July, rising by 7.52 per cent to 2,810,046. A monthly increase figure was not available for the site following its decision to only report this every other month.

Compared with the previously given figure for May of 51,383,937 the site's monthly traffic appears to have fallen by around 3 per cent in the past two months.

Results for the Times and the Sun websites remain unreported following the introduction of last year's paywall.
