Newsquest Media Group is committed to bringing a voice to your region by investing in the best Editors the industry has to offer.   As part of our ongoing commitment to local news, we are on the lookout for top-class Editors to help lead our unrivalled local printed and online coverage across the UK. 

This is an exceptional opportunity for either a highly experienced journalist with many years of experience or for someone who is comparatively new to the discipline but who is rising rapidly through the journalistic ranks with a demonstrable set of credentials.

You will lead a team based in one of our exciting newsrooms both in-person and remotely and drive the newsroom forward on its digital journey. Getting brilliant papers out each week is a given but success in this role means growing the digital audience and embracing a digital-first culture.

As Editor, the buck stops with you. You will be responsible for audience performance across print and digital, as well as the public face of the brands in the area while keeping true to our mission to be the number one news brand in our communities for trusted local news.

As Editor you will:

• Drive the change in the newsroom towards digital and support your team to prioritise digital audience growth
• Coach your team and guide their development, particularly but not exclusively the trainees
• Lead on growing digital subscriptions
• Be the face of the news brands in the region and build relationships in the community and with advertisers
• Produce high-quality newspapers every week and other publications as needed
• Work closely with other departments to ensure our titles are successful and financially sustainable.
• You will be supported by the managing director, as well as Newsquest’s central digital team who provide training and guidance for our journalists.

About you:

You will be an experienced journalist and leader, with a sound understanding of media law and the IPSO code. Perhaps you have already been an editor or have been on the content desk and are ready for the step up. You will understand the journey our news brands are on from print and be excited about leading the next step of that transformation.

You’ll be leading a team of Journalists, so you’ll need to be able to get the best out of your people through effective and motivational leadership.
