The June print edition of men's lifestyle magazine Maxim UK will be its last in the UK, its publisher has announced.

Dennis Publishing confirmed in a statement that following the June issue, on sale from April 23, the title will go online-only.

The news follows the closure of fellow men's title Arena , published by Bauer Media, last month.

"The Maxim brand remains the best-selling men's lifestyle magazine in the world, but Dennis Publishing must move with the times and recognize that the future of the brand in the UK is online," said James Tye, Dennis Publishing CEO, in the release.

When asked if the print edition was being stopped because of readership or profit levels, a spokeswoman for the title told Journalism.co.uk that circulation for the title has increased from 43,452 in August to 45,951.

"Maxim currently accounts for 2 per cent of Dennis Publishing's business. Despite these figures, Dennis Publishing is proud of the brand's heritage and international success," she said.

"We are extremely proud of what Maxim UK has achieved: as a print magazine, it was at the forefront of the UK lifestyle market and as a website it will continue to inform and entertain thousands of readers every day."

According to the release, the company will increase the online editorial team for the site, which will include more up-to-date entertainment news.

No redundancies have been announced as part of the move, but the publisher will enter into a consultation period with all staff 'to discuss future opportunities', the spokeswoman told Journalism.co.uk.

Current Maxim UK subscribers will be given the option to subscribe to the US edition or any of the company's other men's titles.

Maxim launched in print in 1995, adding a UK website in 1999, which attracts 500,000 unique users per month, according to the publisher.
