The role will involve organising the news team and deciding on the top stories to cover, but for Mr Glackin the biggest challenge will be adjusting to British weather again.
Mr Glackin formerly worked at the Beirut-based Daily Star as managing editor where he had a "ringside seat to a revolution", he told journalism.co.uk.
He has previously worked as business editor at the Scotsman and on BBC World as a business reporter, but it was at Building Magazine where he got his first taste for journalism.
"I trained at Building Magazine under a great editor - Adrian Barrick. Working there set the standard for everything I have done since."
He studied history at Aberdeen University and despite his belief that you can never give advice to budding journalist he believes that "all journalists should be good listeners, and never forget when they sit down to write they are telling a story - not simply stringing together a bunch of bullet points or facts with quotes".
