This role exists to manage a team responsible for creating and optimising content that will drive new registrations and audience engagement. This role will manage a team of digital production journalists and will work closely with the central content team and local newsrooms.

This role will be home based.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a team of production journalists to both create original content and optimise content across the network
  • Working with local newsrooms to improve their output to drive customer ambitions whilst forward planning and ensuring quality control over the output of a small central team that specialises in using lead generation tools to create original content
  • Manage a team of digital production journalists, creating surveys, quizzes, polls and other lead generation content across the Reach network
  • Responsible for the quality and delivery of content from the team on a daily basis
  • Manage a shift rota and lead forward planning to ensure availability of content at peak audience times
  • Work with newsrooms in producing content which engages readers and reaches as many people as possible
  • Work with our data and insights functions to demonstrate value, track improvement and identify under performance of content
  • Publish content online, and ensure published to Reach digital publishing standards are met at all times
  • Ensure IPSO standards are met at all times, and every piece of content is legally sound
  • Communicate and guide other network content editors and writers remotely through Slack, Google and other online tools
  • Uphold Reach's policy around diversity and inclusion and work to ensure our values around non discrimination are upheld in everything we publish.
  • Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes

The ideal candidate

  • You will be an experienced senior journalist/content editor with a strong digital background 
  • You will be an experienced user of various analytics tools such as, but not limited to Crowdtangle, Google Analytics, Chartbeat and other resources.
  • Experience of managing a team and influencing others with strong people management skills 
  • Digital publishing skills and experience
  • Social media skills
  • Have a strong understanding of regional news sites, and regional audiences, as well as having a passion for digital storytelling in local journalism
  • Valid UK/Ireland driving licence
  • A confident and articulate communicator (including written, face-to-face, presentation skills) capable of inspiring strong collaboration within an organisation and between teams
  • Proven problem solver and decision maker with the ability to delegate tasks effectively 
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively.
  • Obsessed with the customer and deepening customer loyalty and an expert at identifying ways to improve the customer experience 
  • A fan of data and a believer in the opportunities it can unlock
  • Confident at managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • A self-starter with a can-do, will-do attitude
  • NCTJ or equivalent qualification
  • Understanding of media law
