Chief Correspondent, European Stock Markets

Reuters is looking for an energetic, insightful and inspiring chief correspondent to lead our stock market reporting from around Europe at a critical juncture for what has been one of the most enduring equity bull markets in memory.

The Chief Correspondent oversees a team juggling stock price fallout from trade wars and interest rate rises to the vagaries of digital disruption and the “fourth industrial revolution”. You will need to be as comfortable with the forensics of protracted takeover battles as you are with the nods and winks of Mario Draghi and will steer both our regular stock market reporting and our Stocks Buzz offering on hot stocks/sectors and our brand new LiveMarkets blog on market research, graphics and daily zeitgeist.

You will also need to seed ideas for initiative analysis and investigation by the rest of the team as well show excellent mentoring and writing skills.

The ideal candidate will have first-class news judgment and excellent markets knowledge, be a fluent writer and a strong leader able to motivate a 6-strong team based mainly in London.

Collaboration is crucial – both within the wider markets team of regional debt, currency and emerging market reporters, but also with the company news editors and correspondents seeking to evaluate market risk, return and relative value. Speed is essential for all market coverage but so too is crisp, timely analysis that puts trading trends, technology and regulation into perspective.

An unerring instinct in how to handle market rumours is vital for this role as is the ability to check out trader chatter and either knock it down or turn it into market-moving facts.  In sum, the file should stand out as a must-read for traders and investors alike.

Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of financial markets
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Ability to spot trends and highlight their impact for a cross-market readership
  • Track record of making contacts across the investment spectrum and using them effectively to break news

Desired Skills:

  • Experience leading a team a distinct advantage
  • Proven ability to spot and nurture talent

The Chief correspondent reports directly to EMEA Markets Editor Mike Dolan.
