The St Helens Star is looking for a top-class multimedia reporter to help drive forward its rapidly growing website and weekly newspaper.
This is a rare opportunity to join one of Newsquest's strongest weekly news brands, which has big ambitions to develop its print, digital and social platforms.
We are seeking an ambitious, digitally skilled and versatile journalist to unearth the best breaking news, features, leisure and trending stories on an incredibly lively patch.
You will be passionate about digital storytelling, be hard-working, full of ideas and have a desire to come up with innovative ways of presenting stories across various platforms.
A big part of the job will also be immersing yourself in social media, developing relationships and understanding what matters to the community.
We want to tell the stories our audiences care about - from covering crime and court, to telling powerful human interest and championing the best of the town. You will also ask the questions that hold power to account and want to play a part helping communities build back following the pandemic.
As a reporter on the St Helens Star, you will work as part of a wider Merseyside team that also covers the Wirral Globe and the Leigh Journal.
You will also work closely with Newsquest's Cheshire team, which includes the Warrington Guardian, and colleagues across the country.
The role will initially be home-based, with some work in the field. There will be the option of working from the Cheshire/Merseyside regional newsroom in Warrington from summer 2021.
You will be an outstanding trainee with gold standard NCTJ preliminary qualifications or a fully qualified senior reporter.
A driving licence is essential, as is access to a car and there will be weekend work (on a rota).
Email your CV and a brief covering letter to editor Andrew Kilmurray c/o Elaine Hunt to email@example.com
The closing date for applications is Monday, 17 May.
