Overview


The Copy Editor sits within the Creative Services Department and supports editorial requirements by proofreading and light copy editing of 13 daily, weekly and monthly publications and other content, manipulating graphical content for the website and tagging stories based on content to better enhance user experience. As a copy editor, you will also be required to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be asked of you.

Responsibilites

  • Proofreading and light copy editing all daily, weekly, monthly and annual Energy Intelligence content for clarity, grammar and in-house style

  • Formatting and inserting tables, graphs and images into our online content management system

  • Thumbnail selection for articles and features

  • Working with editors, reporters and production to finalize and publish content

  • Properly tagging stories based on content for online organization and distribution

  • Updating and revising the Energy Intelligence Style Guide on a monthly basis

    You will also be required to carry out any other duties which may reasonably be required of you, including similar editing support

    Core Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of standard English grammar, usage and writing

  • Familiarity with American spelling and grammar

  • Attention to detail, with a strong ability to catch typos and ambiguous or dubious content as well as carefully review and double-check revisions

  • Working with data: formatting tables and graphs according to house style

  • Light photo editing for thumbnail production

  • Ability to work well under deadline pressure

  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Dependability and consistency

  • Ability to work well in a global, team-oriented environment\

    Skills/Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in English, journalism or a similar qualification

  • Familiarity with AP style

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Products: Excel, Word, Outlool

  • Photoshop proficiency a plus

  • Knowledge of business use of social media channels including Twitter

  • Knowledge of the energy industry and related terminology a plus

  • Prior experience in media or publishing a plus

  • Experience using content management systems (CMS)

  • Knowledge of HTML 5 and CSS3 a plus
