Debtwire is looking for a driven financial journalist to join its restructuring desk to cover Italy and Spain.

If you are already a reporter with some experience at a newswire or trade publication seeking a more challenging role, or a credit analyst/trader interested in switch to a fast-paced news desk with a deep financial focus, this could be the job for you.

You will join the leading financial newswire for the fixed income markets, part of Acuris, an established global financial intelligence and data provider.

You will be delving into primarily Italian and some Spanish stressed companies by developing contacts with the local investor and advisory community and analysing companies’ financing structures and earnings.

The private nature of the industry means uncovering the information from well-placed sources is the first challenge, but you will also require an analytical mind and a demonstrable understanding of credit as you will be covering a highly technical aspect of the market.

Focusing on mostly off-diary events, you will need to build relationships with investors, advisors and bankers to uncover leads. You will work in a small, collaborative desk, also contributing to the news flow of the larger Debtwire Europe team.

Fluency in Italian is a prerequisite for the role. Spanish and any experience of fixed income, credit analysis and interpreting balance sheets are an advantage. You will have the opportunity for frequent foreign travel to meet with sources and moderate at conferences.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Some experience in a news reporter role, ideally with a financial focus, or experience in the financial markets with a proven desire to write
  • A self-starter attitude with a cooperative approach
  • An investigative mind and good writing skills
  • Outstanding networking and contact building skills.
