Houzz UK, the UK office for the web's leading home design community, is looking for an experienced writer to join our UK editorial team asap. Top candidates will have at least 5 years experience of writing home and lifestyle content for a consumer publication or website. They will have top-notch writing and editing abilities, a deep well of creative story ideas, and excellent attention to detail. They will love the entrepreneurial, fast-paced culture of the web, interaction with an engaged online community, and being part of a fun and productive team.


  • Degree in English, Journalism, or the equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in writing and / or subbing for a design publication or website
  • A strong background in home and design writing and editing - exceptional attention to detail, grammar and logical story construction
  • A passion for residential design and an understanding of home and garden trends
  • A deep well of creative story ideas, and a strong sense of reader service and journalistic standards of excellence
  • Design industry knowledge and contacts
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • A love for, and understanding of, the entrepreneurial, fast-paced culture of the web

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • A track record of writing news and features with high engagement value
  • An eye for strong design photography
  • Familiarity with digital media, its technical aspects, and writing for the web
  • Understanding of SEO principles and up to date with the latest SEO trends
  • Up to date with UK design and interiors blogs and websites
  • Engaged with relevant social media and aware of associated trends and current influencers
  • A roll-up-your-sleeves, get-it-done attitude and friendly, outgoing personality


  • Produce a high volume of quality original content that readers will bookmark and share
  • Work with the UK Editor to manage the flow of contributor content, managing contributors and photographers
  • Source and manage professionals to contribute expert content to the website
  • Work with the UK Editor to maintain editorial standards
  • Sub content as required
  • Create and send editorial newsletter twice a week
  • Undertake interviews with industry professionals
  • Liaise with photographers and writers as required to organise residential photo shoots
  • Assist with editorial admin as required
