The Hemming Group is looking for a deputy editor to join the team here in Sherborne, Dorset, UK. This is an exciting role with lots of travel, good benefits and a long-term career outlook. You need to be flexible, yet meticulous when it comes to proofreading and subbing. Having good people skills is a must, and if you have any affinity with emergency services or local authority transport that will be considered an advantage.

Role and key responsibilities:

To assist the managing editor in the production of twelve magazines and two trade events per year, including:

  • Liaising with contributors and advertisers
  • Liaising with the sales, production and design department
  • Writing accurate news stories and insightful features and chasing up copy
  • Editing and proofreading articles
  • Working on digital content, including updating websites and sending out e-newsletters
  • Delivering daily industry news for two websites and two bi-monthly email newsletters
  • Creating engaging social media output
  • Working with the marketing team to help with the promotion of the magazine and its associated events
  • Attending and reporting on industry events, trade shows and conferences
  • Working with the sales team to help achieve higher revenue
  • Visiting clients with the sales team to produce greater revenue
  • Helping to produce podcasts and webinars
  • Helping to produce strategic plans to achieve greater revenue

  • Outstanding subbing and proofreading skills
  • Ideally, but not specifically, some knowledge of the emergency services and/or public sector fleet management industry
  • Commercial attitude
  • Creative thinker
  • Knowledge of software including Excel, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, and Photoshop
  • An understanding of social media
  • An enthusiastic nature and excellent networking skills
  • Ability to travel internationally when necessary
  • Ideally, but not specifically, ability to speak another language
  • Ideally, but not specifically, some design experience

Salary: £25.000 PA, plus benefits
