Quartz seeks a deputy news editor based in London to manage and curate our flagship news and community forum across our web homepage and apps, and to help build our global community of users. This role is particularly well-suited for candidates who bring an entrepreneurial approach to their work and can develop creative approaches to making Quartz’s website and apps essential destinations for readers.

The successful candidate will have stellar news judgement, with an eye for the global news stories that are, from moment to moment, driving conversation and capturing the Zeitgeist. They will have experience monitoring and curating news across an array of websites and social networks and a knack for writing pithy, informative notifications and summaries. Working with two team members, this editor will also write and edit our US Daily Brief, the most widely read edition of our daily email newsletter. They will relish applying these skills to new projects as they arise.

In addition, the deputy news editor will recruit VIP users to join the ranks of Quartz Pros, and connect in fresh ways with a growing community of readers and members in the places they most enjoy consuming journalism.

This role rewards candidates who are highly collaborative and able to coordinate across editorial and product teams. They should be adept at managing staff, setting priorities, paying attention to detail, thinking strategically, responding to breaking news, and developing good relationships with a broad cross section of newsroom colleagues.

International experience and languages are a plus.

This role is a full-time position with benefits, based in London. To apply, please send a cover letter, your resume and five examples of stories you have written and/or edited.

Quartz, found online at qz.com, is a business news venture owned by Uzabase.

Enterprise values:

Quartz recruits talent for two salient attributes or qualities:

  • Force of ideas: At the centre of Quartz work are the ideas within our writing. We believe that ideas – to the good and not – have consequence. Our highest work is bringing rigour, insight, intellectual honesty, to that ultimate purpose of separating the bad from the good, and giving voice to the latter.
  • Spirit of generosity: Quartz seeks in its ranks a spirit of generosity – a natural disposition in each colleague toward service and selfless conduct. Quartz writing should be cut from the same cloth – critical on the merits but informed by charity and forbearance in measuring motive and personal character.

Quartz is committed to excellence through diversity, which involves attracting talented people from diverse backgrounds and traditions. We encourage everyone to apply.
