We are a well-respected energy sector publication looking for a digital editor to manage our online content, take ownership of our digital products and to drive growth in web traffic to: http://www.petroleum-economist.com/

Do you have a flair for writing compelling, accurate and SEO-friendly headlines? Can you break down complex information and present it to a specialist subscriber base in an engaging way? Do you know how to draw social media users to a website? If so, we would like to hear from you.

Main responsibilities

* Managing and editing Petroleum Economist’s online copy

* Writing original energy industry articles relevant to Petroleum Economist’s audience

* Ensuring the successful scheduling of Petroleum Economist’s weekly newsletters  

* Ensuring the Petroleum Economist app and digital edition is maintained

* Adapting print magazine copy to make it suitable for the website (adding SEO headlines, images, sourcing data and maps from our cartographic department)

* Using our CMS to upload articles and other online content to the Petroleum Economist website http://www.petroleum-economist.com/ 

* Assisting the Managing Editor with sourcing images and to enhance visual aspects of both online and print copy

* Managing Petroleum Economist’s social media growth strategy to increase our online audience and brand awareness including:

  • Being responsible for the successful scheduling of Petroleum Economist’s social media postings on its social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit)
  • Using social media channels to drive growth in web traffic
  • Reporting from and representing Petroleum Economist at events and conferences in London and internationally as and when required

Essential skills and experience

* A minimum of two years’ experience in a digital-editing role

* A degree, NCTJ qualification or equivalent media experience, including training for and awareness of libel law

* Comprehensive understanding of web analytics, SEO and social optimisation

* HTML knowledge and experience of using content management systems

* Ability to break down complex data and present them in an engaging way

Desirable skills and experience

* Ability to speak a second language

* Experience within energy-sector journalism is a bonus but not essential. Full training will be given
