Editor, Education Department
Full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract, based at our offices in Colchester, Essex
Over the past 12 years, Teach Primary has established itself as the leading magazine for primary school teachers. We are currently seeking a talented editor (or deputy editor looking to take the next step) to continue and expand on this success during a one-year contract.
The right candidate will know how to put together a great editorial package for teachers that speaks to their passion for the job. You will have a knack for discovering interesting and expert contributors and bringing their ideas to our readership. And you᾿ll know how to brief experienced writers, academics and novices alike to get the best possible content.
In addition, you will be a talented writer who is able to capture the essence of life in the classroom and connect with the headline issues of the day.
A knowledge of the quickly-shifting landscape of education is preferred, as is a commercial understanding of the marketplace. We need a candidate who is able to make creative suggestions as to how we can develop our partnerships with a broad range of education companies, and support our advertising team in doing so.
Teach Primary has an active Twitter audience, meaning the new editor will know how best to make use of social media to connect with our followers. You will also work to support the editor of our website, teachwire.net - particularly in developing teaching resources for use in the classroom.
The magazine has a vibrant, well-established look, but the candidate will have a clear understanding of accessible and eye-catching layouts in order to evolve the designs.
The role is full-time and based in our Colchester office, although the candidate will, on occasion, need to travel to schools, conferences and press events, and represent our magazines at key trade shows during the year.
