The Grocer is no ordinary business magazine.
As the award-winning bible of the food and drink industry, we tackle important topics such as the rise of the discounters, obesity, online retail, marketing, climate change, price wars, innovation, the death of the high street, tobacco legislation, the Stock Market, advertising, ethical trade, and the economy.
And we’re growing: on the back of our outstanding editorial, with our reputation for setting the agenda and breaking top exclusives ahead of the nationals, subscriptions are up and we’ve been developing new services to meet the needs of our loyal readership in a fast-evolving environment.
So how can you help? Our award-winning deputy features editor has been promoted to run the features desk. This creates a vacancy. We don’t want to be too specific about the job title. What’s important is that we find someone who loves and ‘gets’ features, and has the necessary wide-ranging skillset and work ethic to help us deliver fantastic features on a wide variety of topics. So we are prepared to be flexible, and the job title (and salary) would be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience, while offering opportunities to grow and develop professionally and salary wise.
A love of food and drink, and knowledge of/interest in retail, supermarkets, advertising, etc., are not essential; what’s non negotiable is a decent head for figures, a journalist’s news instinct, an organized mind and appetite for hard work, proven features writing ability, and a willingness to learn.
It's a high-pressure role, but for the right candidate, working on a very busy and vibrant title, it offers huge job satisfaction as well as a competitive salary and other benefits.
The Grocer is the flagship of the highly successful William Reed Business Media group, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, the US and France.

Interested? Write a covering letter with your CV for the attention of the editor, telling us why you’re right for the job, add some samples of your finest work, and send it to: Helen Murdoch, HR Guru, William Reed Business Media, Broadfield Park, Crawley, West Sussex, RH11 9RT.
