A rare opportunity has arisen to join the football desk in Sheffield in a role leading our coverage on Sheffield Wednesday.
After more than a decade covering the Owls home and away, Dom Howson is leaving the Star, opening up a place in our starting line-up for a talented, creative team player.
This is an opportunity to head up the coverage of one of the biggest clubs in the Championship for one of the country’s biggest regional media titles.
You will be based in a digitally-led newsroom, helping us to understand how to create the right content for our audiences. The successful applicant will work alongside a football team dedicated to providing comprehensive coverage across multi-platforms for the vast numbers of Wednesday fans who see the Star as the trusted brand for their club.
You must be equipped with all of the skills to keep fans up to date with everything happening in and around Hillsborough. We are looking for compelling copy packed with colourful insight, analysis and expertise. The ability to produce engaging and informative match coverage, previews and intelligent commentary is essential, but you will also need the maturity to build relationships around the club, given these are essential to your ability to break club exclusives, on and off the pitch.
Equally important is your ability to craft rich and engaging features by talking to people who share our long-held passion for the club, and not just in writing. You will also be comfortable creating video and audio packages.
Ideally, you will come to interview able to demonstrate a contacts book full of Owls insiders, an eye for a news story and an understanding of the club’s history - and its potential future.
Applicants should send a comprehensive application — including a piece to camera on the Owls’ season so far — to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Closing date for applications: Wednesday, February 5
